Hi, I'm Nyx!
Hey! My name is Nyx! Or you can call me Nicole. I'm the owner here at SwirliNyx.
I'm an artist based in Sunderland in the UK and I've been growing and developing the SwirliNyx world since 2022 in my little home studio.
I love art that's magical and whimsical and brings a swirl of magic to people's lives when there may not be much magic in the modern world.
My Art Journey
I'm inspired by space and celestial objects, botanicals, flora and fauna, and odd creatures. I also enjoy expressing mental health and wellbeing through art. I love vibrant colour, texture and inky styles to go along with it!
I primarily work digitally and have been drawing since I can remember. I achieved 'A' grades in art at school and college; since then I am self-taught. I draw in Procreate on an iPad Pro 2021 with an Apple Pencil although I have also dabbled in watercolour, acrylics and my first love - basic pencil sketches. I also enjoy so many other art mediums like polymer clay creations and amigurumi crochet!
Time to Thrive
I have a first class degree in Creative Writing but I always had a passion for art from being a child, alongside writing. After spending my twenties battling cancer and other health issues which also affected my mental health, I decided to pursue my passion in 2021 to become a full time artist, work in my own little studio and create my own dreams! I realised I went from survive to thrive mode when I hit 30!
In my spare time, you can find me playing video games, baking cookies, dabbling in crochet, watching some science fiction or fantasy show or singing badly to Disney songs.
The Dream
I work in my cosy home studio with my husband, Phil, and our three furry felines: Onyx, Nova and Pluto. They provide emotional support, tea reminders and quality checks! I hope you'll follow me on my journey as I learn and grow in my craft and passion to become a full time artist: the ultimate dream!
